Why Horsh Beirut is important
Horsh Beirut, the largest green space in Beirut, is a public property and belongs to us all. Yet it has been closed to the public for more than twenty years, and only a few people are granted access to it
After completing the renovation of Horsh Beirut ten years ago, the Municipality of Beirut has not yet opened it to the public, and has never provided a legitimate and acceptable reason for this decision
We are here today to demand a clear decision from the Municipality of Beirut to open Horsh Beirut, and to provide us with a date for its opening especially after we gave them a full study on how we can protect it from any abuse. Our inalienable right to public spaces means we all have the right to access it, without exception
We will not stop campaigning for our right to public spaces in Beirut. Having access to public green spaces is essential, especially in crowded and polluted cities like Beirut. It is a basic social and public health need, and provides an essential space for interaction among citizens who are usually separated by political and sectarian divides.

حرش بيروت بكل بيروت
شاركنا في التنزه في 12 مساحة خضراء في كل بيروت للمطالبة بفتح حرش بيروت أمام جميع الناس.
لماذا حرش بيروت مهم؟
حرش بيروت، المساحة الخضراء الأكبر في بيروت، ملك عام من حق الجميع الدخول إليه ، غيرأنه مغلق أمام العامة منذ ما يقارب العقدين.
كان من المفترض أن تفتح بلدية بيروت الحرش منذ 10 سنوات، خصوصا بعد إعادة ترميمه. لا يزال الحرش مغلقاً أمام الناس ولايحق سوى لنخبة من الشعب اللبناني والأجانب الدخول إليه..
نطالب بلدية بيروت بأخذ قرار بفتح حرش بيروت أمام جميع المواطنين وإعلان تاريخ محدد لذلك. ،كمانعتبر أنه لم يعد هنالك أي حجج تبرر إغلاق الحرش وخصوصا بعد تسليم المجتمع المدني للبلدية ورقة السياسات العامة لادارة وحماية الحرش بشكل يمنع عنه أية اعتداء ، ان عدم فتحه وتجهيزه وتطبيق ورقة السياسات العامة ليس إلا تقصيراً من قبل البلدية.
إن حملتنا ليست سوى الحد الأدنى من المطالبة بالحق في المساحات الخضراء العامة التي هي حاجة أساسية في أي مدينة. يحق للجميع التمتع بهذه المساحات والاستفادة منها، لأنها حاجة إجتماعية، وصحية ونفسية للمواطنين، ومساحة للإلتقاء لتعزيز التواصل الاجتماعي.
ان فتح حرش بيروت لن يكون الا الخطوة الأولى من اجل سياسة عامة لتأمين مساحات خضراء كبيرة في كل المدن اللبنانية.
